To speak who we are into a world that demands we fall in line is a radical act.
Too often we feel a lack of agency in our own lives, especially where the world is concerned. It feels like we are downstream of massive forces that demand we conform. In this frantic climate, we can feel powerless. Ballarat Spoken Word is a space to stand up against that tide, to reclaim ourselves, and to speak who we are into the world.
Here, we model a different way of showing up in society—giving ourselves permission to be vulnerable and entirely real. We lend our voices not only to our own experiences, but also to those that have no voice. To the earth and our ancestors.
We listen deeply, engage with presence, and speak from our truth.
Each month, we gather to share poetry, stories, and lived experiences in an environment built to hold us up. This is not a stage for pristine performances; it is a supportive sanctuary where we honour our lives through the simple, radical act of naming them.
You are invited to give yourself permission to be seen, heard, and held. Whether you are feeling beautiful, broken, funny, or uncertain, your authentic presence is what matters. Everyone is welcome, whether you choose to lend your voice to the room or simply sit with us in deep, present-centred awareness.
